A Band On The Run, Maybe To The Big Time
So you wanna be a rock 'n' roll star/ Well listen not to what I say. Just get an electric guitar/ And take some time and learn how to play
In addition to following that classic adivce from the Byrds, teens who aspire to rock greatness might also was to pick up a copy of "So You Want To Be A Rock Star," slated for publication April 1 by Oregon-based Beyand Words Publishing. And inside the soon-to-be-released "how-to" guide by author/musician Stephan Anderson, you'll find a picture of justincase, a young Charlotte band already on its way to filling concert halls and flickering across MTV.
The band- siblings Justin Tosco (guitar, vocals), Nick Tosco (drums) and Hannah Tosco (bass, keyboards)- took the grand prize in a contest sponsored by the publisher for inclusion in the book. The top 15 finishers will be featured in the book, with photos and biographies. The Charlotte trio was selected for the top spot from a field of more than 300 entries.
"We were really impressed with the quality of their music and their expertise and professionalism," Marianne Monson, managing editor of the children's division at Beyond Words, said in a telephone interview. "Their music is so fun. We turned it on and we just started dancing around."
As the grand-prize winner, justincase will appear at "So You Want To Be A Rockstar" book signings. There's also talk of concert dates, TV show appearances and and inclusion on a compilation CD.
"Theya re thrilled about it," said the band members' father, John Tosco, a guitar instructor at the Community School of the Arts.
The group recently recorded five new songs to go along with its original five-song demo. Look for a full-length CD sometime in '99.
